The addition of carotid total plaque (cTPA) prognostic information into the clinical risk assessement tool SCORE2 yiels incremental value, is reliable, reproducible and easily obtained at very low cost. The paper has been published on Swiss Medical Weekly. We hope that cTPA shall become a standard for cardiovascular risk assessment in the Swiss population. It allows to assess and track atherosclerosis risk and is very easily measured with no radiation burden using ultrasound and simple vendor-independent tracing of the plaques visualised on the sonographic machine.
